I want to visit Boston, Philadelphia and NYC on the same trip over a 10 day period. Is a rental car the best way to get around?
Thanks!

NYC during xmas soo NICEEE… i was there xmas 2005!!! it’s a must!!
Best season to visit Boston & New York?? Baseball season of course.
I visited NY around easter about 10 years ago…i liked it because the sun was shining, but the temps were in the 50/60’s which was perfect for walking around and exploring the city. I think as long as you dont go in the dead of summer or winter, it will be great.
The fall. it’s beautiful!
Yes, I would go with the rental car.
New York and Philly are too hot in July/August and too cold in January/February - It’s pretty around the holidays in November/December and it’s also nice in the Spring.
I went to Boston in September and it was very enjoyable.
Or maybe check AOL for events (such as Restaurant Week) and plan your schedule around events that seem fun.
Summer is always nice. I won’t rent a car though. First, gas prices and second you won’t enjoy NY in a car - lots of traffic and nowhere to park.
I will take a bus form Boston Chinatown to NY Chinatown. You can also take the Armtrack train, from BackBay Boston to Penn Station NY -Madison Sq Garden.
Don’t bother with the rental car, parking is expensive and a hassle in both NY and Boston, and in both cities you can get anywhere via the subways. I would reccomend the early spring, both central park in NY and the Boston Commons are beautiful that time of year. Right behind the Boston Commons is the Boston Public garden, which is gorgeous in the springtime, and for just two dollars you can go on the swan boats, which is a nice activity with kids if you have them. Boston is vey pretty in the spring. It’s my personal opinion that NYC is never pretty, but the weather is nicer here in the springtime than the summer, the heat makes everything smell terrible…
I’m a native massachusetts girl going to school in NY. And back to the transportation, there are countless ways to get from NY to Boston. At NY Penn station you can get an amtrack train into boston on the hour, acela trains are a little more expensive but faster. And for a more economical choice, the coach busses are easy, and you can pick them up and get dropped off just about anywhere.
and of course there’s flying, but with all the time you spend waiting and checking in and all that crap it takes almost as long as the train, and the train is roomier and easier and cheaper.
I would say definitely go in the fall or spring. The winter can be harsh and summer can be really hot, but in the fall you will get to see the leaves change color and in the spring in Boston, the flowers in the public garden are all starting to bloom.
Boston, spring, there area a lot of free activities and concerts going on.
the best time to go to Boston would be at spring time. The Boston Common is beautiful at this time.
April and October are probably the “best” times for both, unless you really like ice and snow or oppressive humidity.
Right now is a good time to vist Boston–the spring is pretty. The best way to visit all three cities that you want to see is probably on Amtrak. Once you’re in Boston, the public subway (MBTA) is easy and relatively cheap. And you likely wouldn’t want to have a rental car in New York City.
If you want baseball go during baseball season. otherwise, go in the fall or spring. A rental car is a good way to get to the cities, but use public transit and walking as much as possible once you get there.
Fall is one of the nicest times in Boston. The temperatures are still good, and the trees are real pretty.
Spring is also a nice time of year.
