New York is without a doubt, one of the world’s fastest and most sophisticated places. Its culture is certainly faster than your average pace of life. The city blooms with the birth of sophisticated fashion being come to life every five minutes. Theater actors are brought out to their best in this place. Even the food is served amazingly! Not only is it a fast paced place of sophistication, it is also the place of various choices! From today’s modern fashion accessories, art works, finely made scrumptious everyday eats, to the most hard to find items; it is without a doubt that New York is the home of two or more. After all, why have one, when you can have two, right?
Indeed this is the thing that sets this city of color and pace apart from any part of the world. It is the capital of option. And indeed it did not leave one of the biggest past time of many sports fanatics behind. New York is so much open to option, that it actually has two NFL (National Football League) teams! What about that? So now whether it is your everyday wear, to your Football team, you just have to pick!
With the proclamation of the New York Giants during the 1920’s, came about the birth of yet another football team during the late 1950’s to early 1960’s. We are talking about the New York Jets. Yes, if you have seen the familiar combination of white and green uniforms in the football field, then that team would be, without a doubt, one of the two New York NFL teams.
Now, to some, the New York Jets and the New York Titans might seem to be confusing and overlapping. Are they actually two different teams or are they one and the same? Actually, they are one and the same. You see, when the team was formed on 1959, it originally had the name New York Titans. Their first ever coach was Sammy Baugh, who at that time was given a $28000 per year contract with the franchise. At around 1963, Werblin, the club’s president and CEO, decided that there was a need to change the name of the franchise in order to symbolize the new obsession of man to travel on not just air, but space itself. Together with astronauts walking in the moon, the team’s name was also then changed from New York Titans, to the New York Jets. From there on, we can directly say that the rest is history. The team has been one of the most competitive teams out there. The team also holds the record as the only team who has had had three straight overtime games in their season. This occurred during the year 2005.
As the frame of mind goes in the Big Apple, No option can be that bad. After all, it would not be an option if it wasn’t a good one. Besides, nothing could be so big in New York if it wasn’t worth noticing.

The New York area is one of the largest in the world. With approximately 8 million people being in New York City alone and with less than 900 thousand kilometers squared radius, it is the densest city in all of North America! After a long anticipated debut we finally made our way to the Big Apple, and we were so excited we could barely contain ourselves. Going there has been a childhood dream for us ever since we decided to be world travelers and see everything this globe has to offer!
The people, lights, Times Square, Rockefeller, everything seems so exciting! This poised a big question though… What to do? What New York City event to pick? Well, I want to share with you some tips on New York travel that won’t break the bank! These are all an incredible experience and I would suggest doing them all if you can. Keep in mind there is no shortage of things to do in New York City. You’ll never get the chance to do everything, so do what you can, relax and enjoy what this wonderful city has to offer!
1) New York City comedy clubs: This is maybe the best thing I can suggest if you enjoy any sort of comedy at all. It works out really well because they have salesperson on the streets in the middle of Times Square, you don’t even have to look or try to find tickets. They will literally just flag you down and give you a very good price (We only paid $20 for both of us) on the condition that you buy 2 beverages at the club. The nice thing about their special, for those who don’t drink alcohol you can buy any drink of choice. Soft drinks and water were accepted as well so it really can appeal to everyone who enjoys this sort of thing and the cost is very low for the reward. It really was such a great time, the comedians were fantastic and we were very glad we decided to go. Highly Recommended!
2) Times Square: I realize this must be on everyone’s “top of the list” but it really is an amazing sight to see. This experience is something that you will never forget. The lights, people, banners, you don’t even realize how crazy it is until you are there. I must have seen Times Square on television a million times but honestly it really just is not the same. Spend a little time there to take in the atmosphere. There are plenty of very nice places to eat but the prices on their novelty restaurants (Hard Rock Café, ESPN Zone, etc) are very expensive. If you want something for a very good price, check out the side streets and look for the local pubs. I would really recommend going at night to see it lit up. A note to those who absolutely hate crowds of people, if you go to Times Square don’t go on a Friday or Saturday evening when it is the most busiest. We went on both a Saturday and Sunday night… the Saturday was chaos, and the Sunday was very nice and calm in comparison
All the same, I really enjoyed both of them in different ways.
3) Rockefeller Center: We had the pleasure of going during December month, so we got to experience the Christmas tree and Skating Rink all done up at Rockefeller center. This is also home of the famous NBC Studios (Costs $18.50 for the tour).
4) Central Park: One of the most famous parks in the world and the most visited park in the United States, Central Park is a wonderful place to go on a nice day. Central Park is actually bigger than 2 of the world’s smallest nations; Monaco and Vatican City.
5) See a local New York City Event: Take in a ball game, a musical, or something at the theatre! New York really has everything to offer no matter what your hobbies or interests are! You can usually find something very reasonably priced as well, depending on what you are after.
I realize as most people do, New York tends to be quite expensive but with these travel ideas you can go out and have a really great time and still not spend too much money. There is plenty to see, even just going to see the landmarks and places like Rockefeller, Central Park and Times Square are well worthwhile! I really enjoyed my time just walking the streets and taking in the atmosphere.
If you are planning to stay in Manhattan for a week or so, I would really suggest picking up a copy of “The New York Pass”, spend your week and do everything you can. These passes are actually very reasonably priced (Starting at $55.00 daily and only $139.99 for a 7 day period, per person) and you get FREE access to literally almost EVERYTHING you could want in New York City. Here is just a glimpse of what is here. Keep in mind these are only about a quarter of the free things you get, not even including the other discounted items and special offers.

* CNN Studio Tour
* Empire State Building
* Madison Square Garden All Access Tour
* NBC Studio Tour

New York City is one of the most popular destinations for travel and tourism in the continental United States. Often referred to as “the greatest city in the world”, New York is home to some of the most diverse cultural centers and experiences to be found. With so many options, it’s easy for visitors to the Big Apple to feel overwhelmed. If one has only so many days to experience NYC, how should they be spent?
Here are 5 tops from a NYC native for how to make the most of your trip to New York City.
Tip #1 - Timing is Everything
New York is an exciting city, with a new photo opportunity on every corner. Areas like Times Square and the Theatre District are home to some of the most well-known images of NYC. While they feature some of the finest NYC hotels, they are also home to a large population of working New Yorkers, and are located very close to a major NYC transportation center (The Port Authority). Wandering these sidewalks and taking photographs is best done after 10AM and before 4:30PM, outside of city “rush hours”. Lingering too long on a sidewalk during rush hours is a good way to get swept up in the current of people walking to or from their places of employment, and possibly elbowed out of the way. While most New Yorkers are happy to have a thriving tourism industry, tourists must also respect the fact that not everyone is on vacation today.
Tip #2 - Learn and Use New York’s Public Transportation Systems
New York City traffic is a strange beast that can transform your 3-block travel route into a 2-hour standstill. All vehicles navigating the gridmap streets of NYC are subject to these traffic jams, including the famous yellow taxi cabs. To avoid spending your vacation sitting in the back of a cab, consider walking to your destination or utilize NYC’s subway system. Most New York City residents do not own cars, since the NYC Subway is the largest rapid transit system in the world. Metro cards are inexpensive, compared to other major cities, and grant you access to almost anywhere you may want to visit while exploring the Big Apple.
Tip #3 - Dress for the Seasons
Although New York City is geographically located in a temperate part of the US, the actual topography of the city can make for some unpredictable and extreme weather conditions. Like in many big cities, the presence of tightly-grouped tall buildings can turn a blustery day into a gust of wind that will turn your umbrella inside out. In the winter months, this has a compounding effect on the windchill factor of the local weather. In summer, the large amount of paved and developed land in New York City gives the heat and sunlight few paths of escape. Even though NYC is on the water, areas in-land can get quite warm with so much concrete and steel for the heat to bounce off of. When planning your vacation to NYC, make sure to pack for every weather contingency possible for the season you’ll be there during.
Tip #4 - Leave Unplanned Days to Explore NYC
While there may be an abundance of guided tours and planned outings available in New York City, some of your most memorable experiences may come by surprise. In between the tours and attractions, set aside at least one day to explore without a set route. Although Manhattan may be the city’s most popular borough, travelers should not discount the outer boroughs like Queens and Brooklyn. Stepping outside of the NYC “movie set” and wandering the side streets is a wonderful way to experience the real New York.
Tip #5 - Eat Well
Food should be its own line item on your travel itinerary, since New York City is home to some of the top restaurants and chefs in the world. On the opposite side of the ambiance spectrum, NYC street food vendors are a staple of New York food culture, serving up everything from hotdogs and pretzels to gyros and doughnuts. A little pre-trip research will yield a list of NYC restaurants that will provide a once in a lifetime dining experience, regardless of your choice of cuisine or dietary restrictions.

Guess what? I got fired after 40 years of good eats. Photo: Dan and Rita Wynn
Gael Greene, the brand name of restaurant journalism for 40 years at New York magazine has been fired by the magazine, effective immediately. The magazine gave her one last hurrah with a coverline on “The Most Important Restaurants in 40 Years” in its 40th anniversary issue October 6, 2008, and said goodbye six weeks later.
“I describe it as cutting off your nose to spite your face,” Greene said.
At her premature “retirement” Greene was no longer the weekly critic, having asked to be replaced in 2000, setting off an 18-month search for a replacement that brought on Adam Platt in January 2002. She remained on the masthead as a contributing editor to write her weekly column, “Insatiable Critic.”
She also created a virtual restaurant magazine of her own at www.InsatiableCritic.com.
In her role as restaurant critic, Greene helped change the way New Yorkers (and many Americans) think about food. A scholarly anthropologist could trace the evolution of New York restaurants from the early awakening in the 1970s on a timeline that would reflect her passions and taste over 30 years from Le Pavillon to nouvelle cuisine to couturier pizzas, pastas and hot fudge sundaes, to more healthful eating.
Tapped by founder Clay Felker to be the restaurant critic just months after the pioneering city magazine’s launch and competing against the Times beloved and powerful Craig Claiborne, Greene decided not to rip into any Claiborne favorites like La Caravelle or Le Grenouille. Instead, she chose to dissect the brand new Ground Floor in the CBS building on Sixth Avenue. “Paley’s Preserve,” appeared November 11, 1968, and she writes, “I found my voice.”
“The Ground Floor is, above all, appropriately grand. It is slick, rich, calculated, spare, intimidating. It is Contemporary Wasp. You would hate to break open a roll for fear it would scatter unprogrammed crumbs. It is understatedly snob. The Ground Floor is a perfect room to end an affair in….”
“Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Ice Cream But Were Too Fat To Ask,” “The Mafia Guide to Dining Out,” “The Menu Rap and How to Beat It,” and “Nobody Knows the Truffles I’ve Seen” were early pieces that inspired foodies before foodie was a word. In later years, her annual roundup of New York City’s dining favorites, “Ask Gael,” was a gourmand’s collectible.
As co-founder 27 years ago with James Beard and an ongoing force behind Citymeals-on-Wheels as board chair, Ms. Greene continues her commitment to help feed the city’s homebound elderly. She has devoted as many hours to fund-raising in recent years as she does to writing. Citymeals, the largest public/private partnership in the country, has delivered more than 40 million meals to frail needy neighbors no longer able to shop or cook for themselves. The exceptional support of the food and restaurant community to the city’s elderly shut-ins has been an essential factor in the success of this effort from the very first fundraising weekend 27 Christmases ago.

Eating Out for Cheap in New York
Filed Under Restaurant | Leave a Comment
Dining on the cheap in New York City isn’t nearly as hard as you may thing it is. New York is a city of many nations in that there are probably more nations represented in the dining options of New York than any other city in the world. You can find wonderful food options that represent these many nations and won’t break your wallet. What a wonderful way to literally enjoy the flavors of the world while on vacation!
Rainbow Falafel is the first place I recommend. This may very well be the best falafel shop (if you can call it that) in New York City. If you’ve never tried falafel you are definitely in for a tasty treat. Falafel is essentially a ball of veggies and spices (chick peas, onions, garlic, and other goodies) that has been fried and placed into a pita along with tomato, hummus, lettuce, and yogurt. Getting hungry? We’ve only just begun.
Gray’s Papaya offers the best hot dogs in the city, particularly when you consider the fact that it is hard to mess up hot dogs, especially when that’s all you do for the price. The price in fact is what keeps packing the clientele in by the droves. Where else in New York can you get two hot dogs and a drink for two dollars? Be warned however that the décor and atmosphere are about what you’d expect in a restaurant that charged two bucks for the average meal and don’t expect a Jimmy Buffet type of atmosphere with umbrella drinks and neon colors.
For hoagies of heroic or would that be epic proportions you really must try Tony Luke’s. The décor is simple and the service is quick. You won’t find a huge menu or massive variety of specialty breads or carb friendly diet options here (there are some items but not a massive selection). What you will get are mammoth sandwiches with lots of meat and perhaps a side of cheese fries and a soda to wash it down with. The food is good and the price is right making this one of the best cheap places to eat in the city.
Whether you refer to it as southern fare or soul food, the Soul Spot has it going on. They offer many of the traditional Sunday dinner types of foods such as fried catfish, fried chicken, and vegetables dripping in ‘drippings’ for those willing to risk the impending heart attack. This food is certainly and fabulous example of the culinary delights one would experience in the south while also being offered at a price that is comparable to what you would pay on a Mississippi Sunday afternoon. They do offer a lunch menu that is a little bit less expensive than the dinner menu and either offers a great value for the money.
Schnack is another institution of inexpensive dining excellence in the great big city of New York. If you have a Krystal’s or a White Castle in your area then you’ll get the concept of “Schnackies” which are very much like the burgers you’ll find in the joints I’ve mentioned above. Be assured however that you also have other choices if the cheap little burgers aren’t really your thing. If you make it in before 5 PM you can have eggs almost anyway you can think of having them and if you have the time and the room you really should try Harry’s Famous Warm Chocolate and Banana Bread Pudding. My mouth is watering from just thinking about it.
The point to all of this, other than getting you good and hungry was to let you know that despite its reputation for being an expensive place to visit, if you know where to look you can not only find cheap entertainment but also cheap food. You can enjoy the best that New York City has to offer without breaking your budget. And cheap isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

The Hottest New York Bargains
Filed Under Restaurant | Leave a Comment
If you want to be able to really appreciate these New York bargains, it would be a great idea to compare the two worlds: mid-town Manhattan and lower West Side – as representative for the rich “side” – and Chelsea, Chinatown, SoHo and Greenwich Village – as representative for the not so wealthy “side”.
If you consider traveling to New York city during the holidays, you have to be aware that you will most certainly have to pay a “killing” price for a hotel room. It is just like they are meant to be non-reachable for regular customers with regular incomes. Besides the fact that New York city is “the city that never sleeps” and as a consequence, most of the hotel rooms are always taken by someone, the ones that have availability are in extremely high and permanent demand, with prices out the roof.
One of the hottest New York bargains are also the great sandwiches at Europa Café and Cosi, where you can enjoy some really cheap eats in the Big Apple. There are, honestly speaking, a lot of places like the ones mentioned before where – if you are facing a long weekend to come – you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and these places are scattered all throughout the city. You just have to know where to look for and then go for it and have the meal of your life in one of the greatest cities in the world.
Discount designer luggage is also one of the greatest New York bargains that people are always interested to find out. You know, there are dozens of discount designer luggage with so many types to choose from, all available on the bags market today and proper for any occasion, be it a travel or going to a party. Because today it is not just a plain bag anymore, today fashion tote bags tend to look a lot like the typical travelling luggage.
Discount designer luggage can be a garment and computer case, it can be cosmetic and camera bags, Louis Vuitton purse, Roxy backpack and stylish Coach handbag. Check out now thevoguecity.com and find wonderful bags designed for kids, men, women, professional, sportmen and many more. Though designed for travelling, luggage items have to be something a bit more sophisticated, though maintaining a sporty design signature, because when travelling, luggage also can be a trademark of your personal style. Most of the people who travel prefer lightweight luggage, because it is more practical and you can pack more without passing the weight limit imposed by airline companies.
Discount designer luggage, through its very nature, it is destined to be affordable for all individuals, no matter of their financial status. Famous brands, like Coach, Roxy and Louis Vuitton, regularly – especially when the seasons change – practice an advertising policy that includes many discounts in order to enlarge and diversify their clientele.
